Wi-Fi Real Time Locating System (RTLS)
Real Time Location, or Locating, Systems (RTLS) are fully automated wireless systems used to monitor the location of enterprise assets and people. RTLS can be considered an extension of RFID in that it may use this technology to identify and locate tracked assets or personnel from the information received by readers. In other words, RFID is a tag technology that is collecting data and RTLS is the system, including the tags and middleware or software that manages these data and processes it appropriately for the application. Together, RFID tags and RTLS middleware take RFID tracking to the next level into meaningful location management systems. These systems are designed to update the database with current tag locations as frequently as every several seconds or as infrequently as every few hours for items that seldom move. The frequency of tag location updates may have implications for the number of tags that can be deployed and the battery life of the tag. In typical applications, systems can track thousands of tags simultaneously and the average tag battery life can be five or more years.

AiRISTA Wi-Fi RTLS Platform
Other RTLS solutions rely on a single technology to interrogate active RFID tags for location determination and can offer accuracy of several to tens of feet in best case scenarios. AiRISTA's RTLS platform marries several popular technologies including RFID, RSSI, TDOA and GPS with two patented location determination technologies to provide one of the leading indoor and outdoor positioning systems available in today's marketplace. In many cases the level of accuracy is within one foot.
AiRISTA's RTLS platform offers multiple RTLS engines that may be deployed individually or in concert depending on the application and the needs. This interoperability of multiple engines effectively increases accuracy levels within a single configuration utilizing passive, semi-passive and active RFID tags.
